Why work for Cumberland
Council
Cumberland Council will be an ambitious authority that will shape public services for the better, building on the best and transforming them for the future. We want to create the best set of services for our communities to ensure all our residents will be getting the help and support they need.
People are our strong point - in our communities and in our staff - and they will be the focus of our efforts.
About this opportunity
We are looking for motivated, hard-working, and dedicated person(S) to join our team as a Child and Family Worker; developing and delivering exceptional service to improve outcomes for vulnerable children, young people, and families, working as part of a multi-agency team.
We work in collaboration with all internal and external parties, developing and agreeing on courses of actions that meet the individual needs of the children and families we are working with, ensuring a safe, secure, and non-discriminatory environment is maintained. You will be based at our Family Centre in Botcherby, but will work across Carlisle and Eden, providing a positive experience for the children and young people.
The Role
As a Child and Family Worker, you will be allocated work in-line with the needs of the children and families, including carrying-out parenting assessments, undertaking direct work with children and families, supervising family time between parents and children, and Life Story Work. You will be required to maintain accurate IT records and prepare reports detailing assessments and direct work undertaken. You may be required to attend Court. It is important that the successful candidates are sensitive to the impact of their decisions, and that the voice of children and young people is heard and informs assessment and direct work.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a flexible, driven and compassionate person, who has the ability to adapt to both the individual needs of the children, young people and families, but who can also provide solutions and outcomes to any unexpected issues that may arise. You will need to have experience in a people-facing role and work well as part of a team, encouraging integrated ways of working across multi-agencies. This is a challenging but rewarding role, and experience of managing challenging behaviour and working with complex issues is important. NVQ 3 or equivalent in a relevant professional area is essential, as well as evidence of on-going professional development. Knowledge of current national policies, child protection legislation and child development is also highly desirable, as well as an awareness of Attachment theory and the impact of loss and trauma on children and young people.
What can we offer you!
- We offer a generous benefits package including;
- Competitive Salary
- Relocation Package (up to £8000)
- Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
- Supportive working environment
- Generous Annual Leave Entitlement
- Maternity paternity adoption and parental leave
- Sickness pay
- Cycle to work scheme
- A strong training programme with plenty of opportunities for continuing professional development
- Career Progression Pathways
- Regular Reflective Supervision
